Kiln & Ash

Made to be used every day

Wheel-thrown stoneware from a small studio. A mug, a bowl, a teapot. Things that earn their place on the shelf.

  • Wheel-thrown

Every piece is thrown by hand on the wheel. No two are identical. That is the point.

  • Made to last

High-fired stoneware. Dense, durable, and good for decades of daily use.

  • A small studio

Two people, one kiln, a north-facing window. We fire in small batches and work slowly.

Questions

Are your pieces dishwasher safe?

Yes. High-fired stoneware handles the dishwasher well. We recommend the lower rack and a gentle cycle to protect the glaze over years of use. Hand-washing is kinder, but not required.

How is the glaze finished?

We mix our own glazes in the studio. They are applied by hand and fired to cone 10 in a reduction atmosphere. The results vary slightly from batch to batch — that is part of the work, not a flaw.

Will my mug look exactly like the photograph?

Close, but not identical. Wheel-thrown work carries small differences in form and glaze break. We photograph representative pieces. What you receive will be from the same firing, the same glaze, made the same way.
